What to expect in your first therapy session.

What to expect in your first therapy session.

The first therapy session is all about getting to know you.

It’s designed to understand why you are seeking therapy and to understand your concerns.

The details that we gather in the first session could be some of these:

  1. Presenting concerns
  2. Past history of therapy
  3. What you do currently - your occupation or your student status or your life status.
  4. Family background and current living situation
  5. A quick assessment on your support system
  6. Family history of mental illnesses
  7. Your current or past substance use patterns

We may also touch upon some skills like journaling or meditation to start you off for the first week.

The first session gives us an insight into your condition and sometimes we give you an assessment to understand the baseline of where we begin the therapy.

In our first session with a client, we always touch upon some fundamentals of mental health - A good sleep hygiene, healthy eating habits and a regular exercise routine.

The first session is also where you get to know your therapist and understand if the therapist is a right fit for you. It's the perfect time to ask questions and gain clarity on the therapy process, ensuring you feel comfortable moving forward.

Each session invites you to collaborate with the therapist and discover and create your mental health blueprint. We focus on understanding your emotional triggers, breaking unhelpful cycles, and building strategies to tackle what’s weighing you down, to handle stress, set boundaries, and stay grounded in the moments that matter. It's a personalized framework to navigate life with clarity and confidence.

So, if you are considering therapy, taking that first step is a powerful move toward healing and growth.
